Brazil is Latin America’s largest economy and, as one of the BRIC economies (along with Russia, India and China), it is widely tipped to become one of the four most prominent
economies in the world in the years to come.
What is Social Housing?
Social housing’ or ‘affordable housing’ is a term used for homes built by a government for families with low incomes.
As the economy in Brazil has grown to become the 7th biggest in the world and is continuing to rise, the demand for housing has increased. Property supply simply can’t keep up with demand and, added to this, millions of families in Brazil live in sub-standard housing. In
2009 the government announced the “Minha Casa, MinhamVida” social housing programme.
As a way of reducing the property shortage in Brazil and helping families to buy a home, the government introduced the “Minha Casa, Minha Vida” (My House, My Life) social housing programme in 2009. The programme aims to build 3 million homes in the short to medium term. This big investment has an initial government budget of R$100.6 billion (approx £40.2 billion/US$64.4 billion). The first phase of “Minha Casa, Minha Vida” was launched in early 2009 and looks to build 1 million houses throughout Brazil. The government announced the start of the second phase with 2 million properties in June 2011. “Minha Casa, Minha Vida” is aimed at low-income families and candidates qualify according to various criteria.
Remember that the investor will never be the end user of these houses as only Brazilians under the program can purchase them as we are building under the regulations of Minha Casa, Minha Vida and the government program.
You simply walk away with an anticipated 20 per cent return on your investment.
