They founded the first settlement under the name of Villa Pereira that, with the expansion of town became Barra neighborhood. Nowadays it has the charming vibe of a small town, with local stores, the state’s artisans center, restaurants, bars, fruit kiosks and a beautiful beach, defined by British newspaper The Guardian the third most stunning beach in the world (edition Feb. 16th 2007). You can pleasantly take morning walks along the bay and the Atlantic ocean towards Ondina neighborhood or walk in the opposite direction along the panoramic Ladeira da Barra, cross the elegant avenue Corredor da Vitoria and reach the city garden of Campo Grande. If you are into walking you might like to continue on to Pelourinho, the world famous historical center, declared World Heritage Site by Unesco. At walking distance, on the way to Campo Grande, you will find the institute for Spanish culture, the Alliance Francaise, the German Goethe Institute, several museums, such as Carlos Costa Pinto, hosting the biggest silver items collection of Brasil, the Bahia historical Museum, the Geological Museum, the Rodin Museum, cinemas and theaters. This is the ideal place to enjoy Carnival, being at short walking distance from Barra-Ondina and Campo Grande circuits, but not right on the parade, so that if you get tired of night and day loud music and crowds you find a quite spot at home. If you are concerned about health care, the two best hospitals of Salvador, Hospital Espanhol and Hospital Portugues, are at walking distance as well. You will find that Porto da Barra is well connected by public buses to all neighborhoods and there is bus stop and a taxi point right outside of our building, as well as an foreign currency exchange. Being a beloved tourist destination is well secured by local police.
