The east coast of Northern Cyprus has by far the best beaches in Cyprus, the immense sweep of Famagusta Bay is one of the finest stretches of sandy beach in the Mediterranean. From tiny secluded coves to the vast gently sloping beaches where the green of Cyprus blends with the turquoise of the Mediterranean you really are spoilt for choice. All are within a few minutes’ drive from these apartments.

The Village of Iskele
The village of Iskele, or to give it it’s correct name, Yeni Iskele, (New Iskele), is where the Turkish Cypriots from the district of Iskele in Larnaca were relocated in 1975. It is also the birthplace of the Greek EOKA leader Georgios Grivas. To the west there is the Icon Museum which houses a small collection of 12th to 15th century wall paintings. The people of Iskele are a mixture of local Cypriots, British born Cypriots and expatriates.
The village holds an annual festival where dancers from all over the world perform. There is a delightful park which has children’s swings, an outdoor gymnasium, and a five a side football pitch covered in Astroturf.
There are lovely walkways and benches to relax on an amphitheatre and a small café. It is a good sized village with all amenities you should need close to hand it is within a 35 minute drive to Ercan airport and only 20 minutes from Famagusta. Close by is Iskele beach a long stretch of sandy beach within a 5 minute drive. Bogaz Harbour is less than ten minutes away and then you have the whole of the Karpaz peninsula to explore, pretty much at your doorstep. There are a number of good restaurants within the boundaries of the village as well as in Bogaz.

The Village of Bogaz
Bogaz is a truly beautiful coastal village located on the southern end of the Karpaz Peninsula, otherwise known as the “panhandle” of North Cyprus. The village enjoys a south facing aspect over Famagusta Bay and the clear blue Mediterranean Sea. Local fishermen ply their trade as they have for centuries past from the fishing harbour that is the focus point for this delightful village. Bogaz has a unique atmosphere that has bewitched countless tourists and many are now happily living here alongside the friendly locals having decided that this is the place to be. It is no surprise to find the harbour ringed by many restaurants and taverns from which to choose and where the catch of the day is a popular choice. with excellent fresh, reasonably priced food and drinks. Many people simply fall in love with Bogaz whilst looking for their new home in North Cyprus.
The village is blessed with many natural attractions but has managed to preserve its uniqueness and doesn’t suffocate its visitors with mass tourism. Local Cypriots mingle in harmony with Europeans and other nationalities, enjoying a cool drink, observing the activity around the working harbour and enjoying life as it should be.

Famagusta
The Famagusta region of Northern Cyprus has so much to offer. From the fascinating old walled city with its numerous shops, restaurants and bars then driving north past the ruins of ancient Salamis passing miles of sandy beaches coming to the picturesque fishing harbour at Bogaz and then onwards to the magnificent Karpaz peninsula where some exciting developments are taking place firstly at Bafra with 10 new themed hotels planned for construction and then on to the Karpaz Gate Marina. All this and some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, yes, Famagusta seems to offer everything.
Famagusta is one of the most important, greatly fortified ports on the shores of the Mediterranean. To the north of Famagusta lie the fabulous ruins of Salamis. This one great city is believed to have been founded in the 11th century BC and after the influences of the many conquering nations, notably the Romans, the city was finally abandoned in 648 AD following the combined catastrophes of earthquake and raids by Arab pirates, when the population moved to Famagusta.

The spectacular ruins give a fascinating insight into long-lost civilizations and include a magnificent amphitheater, Roman baths, a gymnasium and royal tombs.
The mosaics are particularly beautiful. Ravaged by war and earthquakes, the old walled town is now only partially inhabited, but it contains some of the finest examples of medieval military architecture extant and the 14th-century Gothic-style Cathedral of St. Nicholas, now a mosque.
Restored and pedestrianized since 1996, the old town of Gazimagusa is a veritable outdoor museum and a real delight to explore, soak up the sunshine and people-watch in quaint cafes.
Just minutes away also lays the thriving new town which is becoming increasingly popular with locals and visitors alike as a fun-packed holiday destination. It's an excellent hub for eating-out, shopping and recreation.
Nowadays the city comes alive at night with trendy cafes, bars and restaurants offering international cuisine as well as the traditional Cypriot food. Clubs and restaurants have traditional music as well as performers traveling from further afield to satisfy the tastes of all age groups. The eastern coastal area of Gazimagusa Bay is one long, very fine beach with excellent facilities and clean, safe bathing and snorkelling. This harbour town is a fantastic destination for summer holidays.

The Region

The Karpaz Area
I believe it is best discribe the Karpaz area as two regions from Bogaz to Yenierenkoy and Yenierenkoy to the tip. Between Bogaz and Yenierenkoy the terrain is less rugged and the area is populated with a sprinkling of villages, and Farming communities, the main villages being Mehmetcik, Barfa and Kumyali. Mehmetcik sits high on a hillside and has the most spectacular views of the picturesque valley below with the sea in the distance. The village is famous for its grape growing and the production of an assortment of traditional sweets made from grape juice. Bafra until recently was a small sleepy farming community, now it is a hive of activity with 2 large 5 star hotels built on the magnificent sandy beach, with more hotels planned it is set to become the Las Vagas of Northern Cyprus. Kumyali is an unspoilt, coastal village with a small fishing harbour and sandy beach. Surrounded by Olive groves and orchards it is in one of the prettiest settings. Although it is in a rural position, close by there are two supermarkets and a petrol station, there is a choice of excellent restaurants along the main road that by passes the village. The next village that you will come to is Yesilkoy translated means ‘green village’, famous for its market gardens and produces of the yam like vegetable kolokas.Yenierenkoy is a large village, once the centre of the thriving and lucrative tobacco industry still very evident are the factories, packing houses With its narrow winding streets dotted with coffee shops and markets Yenierenkoy is a pleasant rambling village, the small tourist office is open in the summer months. In stark contrast a few kilometers along the coast is the brand new state of the art Karpaz Gate Marina with berthing for 350 yachts and all the facilities that the yachting fraternity requires.

The Karpaz Pennisular

There are still areas of Cyprus that have remained virtually unchanged for hundreds of years, and the Karpaz Pennisular is one of them. Only the passage of time has left tell-tale marks upon the terrain and the shoreline. For thousands of years this island has been inhabited, and hidden amongst the densely packed undergrowth that covers the hillsides are the remains of past civilisations. Take a journey into the Karpaz Peninsula to discover for yourself areas that still have the essence of ancient Cyprus.
Where you will see the donkeys roaming freely and shepards grazing there flocks of sheep and goats amist the stunnning countryside. A vast array of Beaches of golden sand can be found on the north and south coasts. Some are easy to find as they may have a small hotel nearby but others have to be searched for. There are few signposts to the sea and part of the adventure is seeking not to get involved with. They continue to farm and bring up their families, in a way of life that stays resolutely stuck in a time warp. It is worth taking the time to explore the Karpaz and there are a few small hotels offering comfortable accomadation or for the adventurous there is a selection of basic beach huts available. The pace of life is slow so when you visit the Karpaz don’t be in a hurry, and prepare yourself for a relaxing break from the grind of modern life.

Exciting developments
There are some new and exciting developments in this region and despite a global recession in property work continues on the planned developments mentioned below.

Bafra – New Resort hotels
Investments made jointly from the private sector and the government in the Bafra region are designed to boost tourism in the area. Plans for no less than 16 five star hotels, a shopping centre and enlarged desalination facilities will make this into the ‘Las Vegas’ of the Eastern Mediterranean’. The hotels will be designed along various themes with such names as The Hanging Gardens of Babylon, The Coliseum, The Kaya Artimis, and Noah’s Ark etc. The 750 bed Kaya Artemis is already completed as is the Noah’s Ark Hotel, both are impressive and along with the new 18 hole golf course currently under construction and due to be completed in the autumn of 2015 certainly makes a statement about the future of tourism in this part of Northern Cyprus. New roads are being built to reduce the travel time from both Kyrenia and Famagusta to this region. This touristic development is just a 20 minute drive from the villa Bogaz.

As if that were not enough the new Karpaz Gate Marina is now open and operational. Located just north of the village of Yeni Erenkoy and just 30 minutes away from Bogaz. It is large enough for 350 plus vessels, including Super Yachts of over 65 meters. Restrictions on sailing along the territorial waters of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus have now been lifted which means yachts will sail to this new and almost only available berthing spot in the Eastern Mediterranean. This will further add value to properties and investments in the area and act as a money magnet with the super-rich bringing their yachts and wanting to explore the region.
